Where We Stayed:
- Hyatt Centric Murano Venice
- Hyatt Place Frankfurt Airport

Our plans for our trip to Venice included a lot of food and wandering around both the streets of Venice and the island of Murano. Venice was one of the most unique places we’ve been. It truly felt like entering another world, with its windy streets and canals winding through the city.
The Rialto bridge. Packed with tourists. We preferred the quieter areas of Venice. Outside our favorite little restaurant Tiny little tunnels. This was a named street One of the many “bus stops” along the canal where you can grab a ferry Gondola traffic jam on the main canal
We stayed on the island of Murano near the main island of Venice. Murano is known for its history of glassmaking. We spent an entire day learning about the glassmaking culture by first visiting the glass museum, then visiting the many glass shops on the island and purchasing our own glass souvenirs.
The first clear glass was created in Murano, including this glass chandelier Crackled glass was invented in Murano Glass canes were invented in Murano Tiny glass portrait
Some souvenirs we brought home. A tray made of canes of glass and glass sushi
This was the really exciting point of our trip to Venice. We ate so much good food. It’s one of the only places I’ve been where I rarely had to worry about the gluten free options at a restaurant. Celiac disease is so common in Italy, that nearly every restaurant offers gluten free pasta and pizza dough.
We also learned about and appreciated several long Italian meals on this trip. Italian meals are usually organized into four courses: Antipasti (Appetizers), Primi (Pasta), Secondi (Meat or fish), Dolci (Dessert). most of our meals lasted at least 1.5 hours (sometimes up to 2.5 hours) and consisted of 2-3 of these courses.
Our first real Italian lunch – Primi for me was Cacio e Pepe and for Sam was Aglio e Olio Our first Secondi of the trip. Grilled Salmon and grilled skirt steak with veggies Another trip to Murano Gelateria Gluten free pizza Sam’s pizza Prosecco here was cheap and delicious Sam’s bruschetta antipasti CARBONARA – One of the best lunches I’ve ever had. Sam had duck ragu, which was also very good Risotto isn’t super popular in this area of Italy, but I had some topped with seafood A delicious dessert. The bottom was basically a cheesecake mix, topped with tart jam and shards of white chocolate More Aglio e Olio (this was trip #2 to this restaurant) Our waiter remembered us from the day before, so he brought us free limoncello! Our favorite little gelato shop on Murano
