Where We Stayed: Hyatt Regency Chicago

Trip Highlights:

  • A Surprising Room Upgrade
  • Gluten Free Donuts Again
  • Navy Pier
  • Lots of Nando’s

Favorite Restaurants:

After deciding to spend a weekend in Chicago less than a week prior, we drove the 1.5 hours down to Chicago from Milwaukee on a Friday night after work. We had unfortunate timing with rush hour in Chicago, but made decent time to the hotel, arriving a little after 5 p.m. Once there, we found out that had been upgraded to a suite (the first time we had gotten that perk due to our Globalist status with Hyatt!) and went up to our surprisingly large, but slightly awkwardly-sized, room. We couldn’t help but laugh a little bit at how large and spaced out the room was, but we appreciated the upgrade! We were also given a room with gorgeous view out over the city and the river.

For dinner we walked around the corner to our favorite chicken restaurant, Nando’s, before spending the rest of the night in watching Dr. Who in our room.

Our Saturday started with breakfast in the hotel, which was one of the best Hyatt breakfasts we’ve had. I tried an omelet for the first time (not sure why I’ve never had one of those before!) and they had a good mix of other sides that kept us full for most of the day.

Our first stop was Do-Rite Donuts, down near the Magnificent Mile. I tried these donuts on our last trip to Chicago in April, and they have become my favorite gluten free donuts. We stocked up on a couple donuts each for later, and continued our walk down to Navy Pier.

Despite the fact that Sam and I have been to Chicago together several times, we’ve never visited Navy Pier together (he had never been and I hadn’t been here since high school). We spent a little over an hour wandering inside and outside of the pier. They had begun decorating for Halloween, so there were several carved pumpkin displays that we checked out as we walked. I particularly enjoyed the small garden area with the glass walls in the upper floor of the pier. Once we had seen everything we were interested in, we took an Uber back to the hotel and spent the afternoon snacking on our donuts and watching more Dr. Who.

We had intended on stopping by our favorite steak restaurant around the corner from the hotel, but they were pretty busy, so we instead picked up another delicious meal at Nando’s instead. We spent the night watching more Dr. Who in the hotel room and enjoying drinks and snacks from the hotel bar.

Overall, we love spending time in the Windy City, as it’s an easy city for us to visit with little effort, has delicious food, and we love staying at the Hyatt Regency. I’m sure we’ll be back!
