We spent the weekend with Morgan and Patrick in their new home city of Houston, Texas.
Houston Museum of Natural Science & Hermann Park
Morgan’s 30th birthday! After catching up with Morgan for a bit, we began to explore the Houston Museum of Natural Science. This museum had a mixture of artifacts from different types of sciences, but the standout area was definitely their hall of dinosaurs. This area was packed with dinosaur skeletons and was super fun to walk through.
After a quick lunch at Torchy’s Tacos (a favorite of ours since we discovered it in Austin, TX), we explored a bit more of Hermann Park. The museum we visited that morning, along with several other museums and the Houston Zoo are all located within Hermann Park. We decided to buy tickets for the small train that travels around the park before going our separate ways for a couple hours.
We met up again that evening with Morgan’s husband Patrick to celebrate her birthday a bit more with dinner at Kura Revolving Sushi.
Space Center Houston
Our next full day was spent at Space Center Houston, which is located just next to NASA’s headquarters. This NASA location is known for being the main control center for many space missions (for example the famous “Houston, we have a problem” was speaking to those on the ground at this location).
We had visited the other popular NASA tourist site, Kennedy Space Center, the previous October, so we were unsure of what we would see here. However, this location was much better than Kennedy Space Center. Unlike in Florida, this location had so many real-life artifacts that were fascinating to explore. A highlight of this location was the tours that you could go on through the NASA facility itself. We were able to view the original Apollo control room and the astronaut training facility. We also saw the only remaining space-ready Saturn V rocket and the plane used to transport the space shuttles from place to place.
We ended this day at Morgan and Patrick’s apartment playing Villainous.
Houston Zoo
Monday morning we met up with Morgan to get a tour of her work, the Houston Zoo. Morgan walked us around the entire zoo, pointing out the animals that she worked with and telling us stories about her experience working there. She and I also took a ride on the carousel and I was able to feed the giraffes (which I am always a fan of!).
After leaving the zoo we picked up some Chinese food and then spent a few hours playing games in our hotel room with Morgan.
This was a great taste of Houston and it was great to catch up with Morgan and Patrick and see their home! Houston, we’ll definitely be back!
