Where We Stayed: Shannon’s House
Trip Highlights:
- Lots of Holiday Light Shows
- Hadestown on Broadway
- Twenty-Sided Tavern in Chicago
Favorite Restaurants:
- Our normal favorite Philly Restaurants
- Friedman’s
We made our annual trip out to Philadelphia for Christmas. This year, we also took a day trip up to New York City to see Hadestown on Broadway.
Christmas
We enjoyed our usual Christmas in Philadelphia, complete with charcuterie and lots of poker. New this year, we also feasted on a few Danish treats, including Danish hot dogs with all the fixings in honor of our trip to Denmark earlier in the year.
Philadelphia Zoo Lights
One new stop this year was to the Philadelphia Zoo Lights. This was a ton of fun and a really beautiful light display, probably one of my favorites I have ever been to. We will definitely be coming back here during future Christmas trips.
Longwood Garden’s Holiday Lights
We also stopped by the Longwood Garden Holiday Lights display, which we have visited in the past. This was also beautiful, just as it has been in past years. However, I did prefer the Zoo Lights to this light display.
NYC & Hadestown
One day of our trip we took the train up to NYC to see Hadestown on Broadway before Patrick Page left his role as Hades. Hadestown was the best piece of theatre I have ever seen. From the incredible set to the wonderful performances, it’s a show I would see again and again.
After the show we tried out a restaurant none of us had been to in NYC before: Friedman’s in Herald Square. This place also became a favorite, and we plan to be back during our future trips to NYC.
Twenty Sided Tavern
Sam and I made a little pit stop on our way home from Philadelphia. After flying in to Chicago, we spent the day relaxing before watching a performance of The Twenty-Sided Tavern, a stage show based on D&D where members of the audience help control the actions of the players on the stage. The show was very well done, and was a great way to end our week.
